Real Guitar Playing

I enjoy occasionally breaking out my Guild acoustic guitar or my beat up classical guitar and dabbling in a song every now and then. Occasionally, I even have the privilege of playing and singing at church. When I was in high school and college not only did I take extensive piano lessons but I also took guitar lessons that taught much more than just how to play chords. I learned how (or I should honestly say that I tried to learn how) to play the actual individual notes and I was amazed at how much more difficult it was than playing piano. I will never forget serving one summer on a mission team to Brussels, Belgium. One night our team was walking downtown among the shops and we walked past classical guitar students playing extremely complicated pieces. I could not take my eyes off of their hands as I marveled then and I still do today at their skill. I cannot imagine the passion, dedication, discipline, and countless hours poured into being an accomplished classical guitarist. With this in mind I ran across a blog called Finger Slogging that posted a YouTube video of three gentlemen, the Romeros, playing a rare flamenco classical guitar piece called the Malaguena. God knew what He was doing when He created music. There is an amazing power in all kinds of music. David was able to soothe the demented state of King Saul by playing his stringed instrument for the king. I would love to have been there to watch and listen to David play for the glory of God and God using David’s music to touch a person deep within his soul. Turn up your speakers and listen to and watch every second of this video and enjoy and marvel with me at the skill of these gentlemen and may God even use this wonderful music to bless you as it did me!
