I guess you’ve gotta start somewhere and this is it. I’ve been reading blogs the past few years but have never ventured out to take the step of writing my own blog. I thoroughly enjoy preaching and teaching (oral communication) but find writing to be hard work. I do write out every sermon in manuscript form which takes a great deal of time praying, studying, reflecting, and organizing my thoughts but that is still a different style of writing than writing for other’s to read. I was challenged by reading Abraham Piper’s post (6 Reasons Pastors Should Blog) on his blog, desiringGod. I was convicted for not using this tool to do do my part to share in this online community of thought. I may write once a day, week, or month about issues and stories related to the church, family, movies, books, and a wide variety of issues. I am excited about what I will learn through this process and what I may even contribute to the life of others. It its my hope and prayer that God will use this blog to inspire and equip those at the church I serve, family, friends, and all of us who would venture to delve into this exciting online community, to love God and each other with all that we have within us.

I know I should be working, but I wanted to read your whole blog and check out all that you had put on it. Way cool!! As a reader, I really am looking forward to the reviews. I love Christian Humor, so if you have anything like Living… I would be glad to read it (after the Joshua series)
Thanks,

Mike, I like the picture you chose – brings back fond memories of our Mission Trip to Honduras. I enjoyed reading your blogs. I, too, think it will be a good thing for our congregation. I also went to Piper’s blog & read the 6 reasons why a pastor should blog which I thought was quite interesting. The first reason (writing makes you think better, etc.) reminded me that I had planned to start journaling as part of my daily Bible reading/studying when I retired and had more time. Well I haven’t done that yet but I do plan to start that as soon as our company leaves this weekend – keep me accountable!

Yes. The picture does bring back fond memories. When I put the picture on the page it reminded me of just how beautiful it was. I will be happy to keep you accountable and also please keep me accountable to keeping up with this blog and making it the best that it can be!

Wonderful stuff! Now Cindy and I have another website to check in on from time to time. BTW, have you visited Richard Hall’s weblog?
I suspect you know he’s the Methodist minister form Wales who served here some weeks in 2000 or so in a pulpit exchange with Pastor Ivan…his website gets a bit controversial at times but it is fun. I am impressed! Blog on!

Rick,
Thanks for dropping a note. Yes. I remember Richard. He came and preached here one Sunday somewhere in my first year. It just so happens that I was skimming his blog today. See you and Cindy online!

Pat forwarded me your first blog and I was both impressed and inspired. I especially appreciated your thoughts on seeing the movie and having to “let go”. I have always heard that in raising children we must give them roots AND wings – the hardest of things is wings. I can attest to that and have the same feelings about my grandsons who will soon be leaving their nest.

Thank you for your comments, Minnie Ruth. I love that analogy “roots and wings.” You are right. We spend all those years giving them roots and then we have to give them wings. The wings are very difficult!

I loved the new additions. Just pictures of the monuments brought me to tears! I love the piece on the turtles, we get into this when we go to Sarasota. Loved the music & flowers. Looking forward to your sermon tomorrow.
